JP Castillo was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. At the tender age of 8, he moved to Los Angeles where he was exposed to an entirely new gamut of music. He would derive much inspiration from his parents, who were successful jazz musicians. It was in those early years that music molded him and helped create within him a true artist. He began by playing drums and percussion, which now translates to his music through his unique rhythm driven melodies. He soon changed his focus to singing, where he excelled greatly. Always looking to be challenged, JP worked his powerful voice to its full potential. Range, dynamics, and impressive ad libs are just a few of his vocal assets. He reveres musical influences such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, J. Moss, and T. Nash. These artists gave way to the rhythms and sounds in his head, propelling him to produce music for the masses. His lifelong dream has been to write and perform in a way that speaks to all, regardless of cultural differences. Hungry to have a voice in an otherwise crowded industry, he has honed the ability to appeal to the mainstream while still maintaining a high level of vocal integrity. JP's sound is edgy, and he's not intimidated by exploring new extremes. Rather, he welcomes and pursues them. This is a young man who doesn't want to simply push the envelope, but give it a good shove. For him, the studio is a playground for his creative imagination, full of unlimited possibilities. Not only is he a gifted singer/songwriter, he is an experienced dancer and showman. Onstage is where he feels the most alive. He has performed in countless venues stretching from his hometown in L.A. all the way to Japan! These include several Disney events, Universal, and the Gibson Amphitheater just to name a few.
